Health Benefits of Fruits


Fruits have good source of vitamins and minerals. Eating fruits as  healthy diet can reduce the risk of chronic diseases. The nutrients in fruits are vital for health and maintenance of the body.  Most importantly, eating a diet rich in fruits can stop any of the cardiovascular diseases from developing. 

Fruits are life enhancing medicines packed with vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants etc. it provides plenty of soluble dietary fibre, which helps to reduce cholesterol and fat from the body; it also help smooth bowel movements and relief from constipation. Hundred of complex reactions take place in human body and for smooth functioning of the body,  you need different nutrients supplied by fruits in a natural way as the fibre content  help fight diseases. Having different types of fruits have different nutrients that serve different purposes in the body. Fruits are nature's good gift to mankind.

Fruits provide soluble dietary fibre, which helps to bit down cholesterol and fat in the body.  In addition, mixing dry fruits with some fresh fruits provide vitamin C which give complete absorption of iron in the stomach.

Both Fruits and vegetables are categorised as healthy. Diets high in fruits and vegetables are recommended and they both have a place in dietary guidance because of their concentrations of vitamins, especially vitamins A and C, minerals. 

For your 5 A  DAY, it can be fresh, frozen, canned, dried or juiced, it  should contain a variety of fruits and vegetables and this is because different fruits and vegetables contain combination of different fibre, vitamins, mineral and other nutrients needed in the body.

The 5 A DAY campaign is advice from the World Health Organisation (WHO) which recommends eating a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables a day to lower the risk of serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke and some cancers.
