PSN seeks harmonization between pharmacists and other healthcare workers
The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has pledged to implement drug distribution guidelines and curriculum training for pharmacists in Nigeria. The president of the association, Ahmed Yakasai, said this when he and other executives of the society paid a courtesy visit to Pfizer Nigeria in Lagos.
He said the society under his leadership would also aggressively pursue insurance cover for pharmacists, and harmonization between pharmacists and other healthcare workers.
He described PSN as an organisation that was set up to maintain high standards of Professional ethics and discipline among its members; the society also promotes legislation for the enhancement of its image and the interest of the pharmacy profession and the practitioners in Nigeria.
Concerning Pfizer, Yakasai said the pharmaceutical company is one of those at the forefront of corporate social responsibility and the use of digital technology.
Pfizer team and PSN’s delegation discussed issues of mutual interests including advocacies and partnerships. The Medical Director of Pfizer Nigeria, Dr. Kodjo Soroh reiterated Pfizer’s support especially in the area of partnership in the cardiovascular space, newsletter and website for PSN.
Margaret Olele, Director Corporate Affairs/Health & Value said the visit is part of Pfizer’s efforts aimed at strengthening pharmacy alliance, improve Pfizer’s networking agenda with the society and leverage support for wider advocacies nationwide.
Yinka Subair, Commercial Director for Pfizer Nigeria noted that the business of pharmacy is seen as trading. According to Subair, stakeholders need to change the outlook so that people would see pharmacists as playing key roles in the healthcare system.
“Pfizer would be rolling out a team that would be talking professionally to pharmacists, not only selling to them but also sharing appropriate medical information that would guide the operational practice of pharmacy,” he said.
