12 Ways To Healthy Diet
Healthy diet is a key part of healthy living. According to Atreya “it is wholesome use of food that promotes the health of a person and that which is unwholesome is the cause of disease” Eating a healthy, balanced diet is an important part of maintaining good health.
Here are some healthy ways to consider
- Eat varieties of foods: Eating varieties of foods give the body the nutrients needed to grow, fight diseases and ensure that you get all the potential nutrients to help the body function properly. Food consume in moderate quantity and portion control. Eating varieties of food is part of maintaining good health.
- Eat plenty of fruits and veggies: Fruit and Veggies are a vital source of vitamins and minerals. The nutrients, fibre and other properties present in fruits and veggies may help protect against diseases such as cancer, obesities, cardiovascular disease and other conditions.
- Get more whole grains: Choose wholegrain or wholemeal varieties of starchy foods such as brown rice, whole-wheat pasta brown and whole grain foods such as whole wheat, barley and oats.
- Limit sugar and salt intake: Reduce sugar and salt consumption, diet that are high in sugar and salt can be linked to many health conditions such as heart disease, some types of cancer, high blood pressure, stroke, obesity and tooth decay.
- Limit refined grains, added sugar: The refined carbohydrates in white bread, pasta and most snack foods have little or no dietary fibre and have been washed off nutrients; also limit foods with added sugar such as candy as many sugar contained foods are high in fat.
- Eat more of unsaturated foods: Nuts, fatty fish, avocados and vegetable oils give the body unsaturated fats. Unsaturated food like fish, avocados, beans, pulses, eggs are good sources of protein that helps reduce heart disease and other health conditions. Eat less saturated fat and sugar
- Reduce animal fat: Limit your intake of animal fat such as red meat and processed meat, which causes LDL known as bad cholesterol. To cut down the fat, choose lean meats, skinless poultry products and low-fat dairy products.
- Eat more of Potassium rich-foods: Eat more of potassium rich-foods such as citrus fruits, banana, potatoes, beans and yoghurt. Potassium foods help to combat some conditions; also lowers blood pressure.
- Eat more healthy foods over Supplements: Many people take multivitamins and calcium supplements to meet up with recommended daily intake, by eating the right foods can be more helpful than supplements.
- Reduce Alcohol intake: Higher intake of alcohol can cause health problems. Drinking in excess can be harmful to health.
- Adopt homemade food: Enjoy food prepare at home, be mindful of what you eat, by preparing the food yourself will have control over the ingredient and the quantity present in the food.
- Drink plenty of fluids: Water is the best drink for easy digestion, but choosing healthier drinks is a key part of balanced diet. Some soft drinks are high in sugar and result to high calories, some high in both sugar and caffeine, so choose right, check nutrition labels on soft drinks can help you make healthier choices.
