Drink plenty of water, as soon as you feel the heartburn sensation, drink a 250ml glass of water to suppress the acid down your oesophagus into the stomach
Chewing a sugarless gum, saliva helps neutralize stomach acid, chewing gum makes you to generate and swallow extra saliva, which wash the acid down.
Baking soda is another home remedy to neutralize stomach acid, which causes heartburn. Mix half teaspoon of baking soda with teaspoon of lemon juice in warm water. Do not drink the baking soda by itself, it is important to add lemon juice to defuse the gas in baking soda.
Vegetable Juice such as carrots, cucumbers, radishes or beets are packed with alkaline and antioxidants which helps to lower the acid in the stomach.
Advice
Limit food that increase stomach acid, such as fried food intakes, packaged foods, caffeinated products, peppermint, garlic, citrus fruits and alcohol
Control your stress as stress can affect every part of the body from immune system to digestion, which can affect overall quality of life.
Ensure not to eat too much, eat smaller portions each time of the day as overeating puts high pressure on the stomach.
Also, check if medication is the causes of your heartburn symptoms, medication such as birth control pill and high blood pressure medication.
Eat smaller, more frequent meals to reduce the production of stomach acid. Avoid eating too much in one sitting.
Avoid lying down because the stomach acid increases due to gravity when lying down.
